NZARES Conference 2024 – Wellington

“Economic Resilience of New Zealand’s Global Value Chain”

The NZARES conference organising committee invites you to attend our conference. The conference will be held at the Atura in Wellington. There will be a conference dinner on Thursday night. Registrations for the 2024 NZARES Conference are now open.

Conference Theme and Panel Sessions

The theme of this year’s conference is “Economic Resilience of New Zealand’s Global Value Chain”. This year we have organised three panel sessions on important sub-themes, namely “Resilience of New Zealand’s Value Chains”, “Using Industry Data – Issues, Access, and Confidentiality”, and “Climate Policy”. In addition, we will have concurrent contributed paper sessions on various topics. A confirmed timetable and order of programme will be available on the NZARES website soon.

Contributed Paper Sessions

To present in a contributed paper session at the NZARES Conference, you will need to register for the conference and submit your abstract on the website. Students will be able to register for FREE if presenting their work. Abstract submissions close on Monday 29th July. Please ensure you have registered, paid, and submitted your abstract by then.

NZARES ECR Session 2024

We are pleased to announce that the NZARES committee has decided to have a dedicated Early Career Researcher (ECR) session at our conference this year on August 29, 2024, in Wellington.
We define Early Career Researchers (ECR) as students at the undergraduate (honours), graduate (honours or masters), or post-graduate level and scholars within 5 years of receiving their Ph.D. ECRs focusing on agricultural economics, resource economics, environmental economics, development economics, farm management, agricultural systems, agricultural extension, and food marketing are encouraged to submit short papers on their ongoing research.
An ECR can also submit an abstract for the NZARES conference, but this special session offers a platform for ECRs to connect and receive feedback on their work in a more engaged manner by having dedicated discussants for each of the papers.
The organising committee cordially invites interested students, and scholars to submit their short papers to nzares@nzares.org.nz by June 28, 2024, at 5:00 PM NZST. A short paper (10 pages, without references) is required in the following format:
  1. Motivation/problem statement
  2. Purpose/Research Question(s)
  3. Method(s)
  4. Findings
  5. Policy Implications
We will award two prizes: NZD 1,000 for the best paper, and NZD 500 for the first-time presenter enrolled at an NZ University.
We are looking forward to engaging in Wellington!
